  • Crash on Fractal noise – at least it’s consistent

    Platform/software: MacPro AE 8.0.2, CS3
    Comp: DV, 6 seconds
Layer 1: DV Quicktime video clip
    Layer 2: Solid, 2000×1500 pixels
layer 2 has Fractal noise applied and zooms from 100% to 20%
layer 2 has transparency set to about 25%
Layer 3: Solid, 720×480 pixels (blue)

(The idea is to combine layers 2 and 3 to simulate a cloudy sky. Eventually, I’ll be luma keying out the white sky in Layer 1 so the fake sky shows through from Layers 2 and 3. But I get this crash even before applying any keying effects to Layer 1.)

Consistently, when I move the cursor toward the end of the timeline, AE crashes. This happens even when I turn off the Fractal effect in Layer 2.

I’ve restarted the computer, tried setting the comp to 1/2 quality instead of full.

I guess I can try making my fake sky in PS and avoid Fractal Noise, but I’m wondering why this is happening.

Where can I get more information on this problem?

    Thanks!
