cracks in land like after earthquake
Hii,
I am doing a project where I need an effect of cracking land going wide . All starting from one point ..I mean something like in Ice age where a squirrel hits land with a nut and the land starts to break to huge blocks ..
I tried lightning but did not get expected results ..it seems unnaturally ..
Anyone was ever trying to reach something similar ???

I actually used that in a weather promo about our drought. What I did was took a photo of cracked dirt and photoshopped over the cracks and then used an animated mask to reveal the cracks. It may or may not work for what you are trying to do but when I added the sound of rumbling, metal crushing and a few other things it looked pretty good.

I meant to do little more sophisticated effect with cracks actually widening as they advance from source point….
Something like lightning but not that exact shape and branching..less random and equal distribution of branch strength.. The standard lightning supplied in AE is not suitable for that job I think. -
Like stated above, I think in 2D I would just draw the final result then use animated masks to reveal it over time. Basically use this same effect:
