  • Cracked glass effect to 3d Layer

    Hi
I have some text that currently begins in the distance and quickly races towards the screen. I want the text to appear to smash into the screen, thus cracking the screen. I have tried displacement mapping but this does not seem to achieve the effect i require. Anyone have any suggestions?

This from Aharon recently for a cracked wall, might be just what you want:

Subject: Re: Animating cracks ? + realistic camera shake.

Try shattering a layer with the effect called Simulation > Shatter.

    Set the shape to Glass

Set the viscosity all the way up to 1

    Set the Gravity to 0

May not be waht you want, but maybe…

As a nice addition to Shatter (glass), I just did an autotrace (work area, low numbers for Tolerance and Thresold) of the layer shattered.

To get a nice light flash that leaks from the cracked screen I added:

    Vegas
    Stroke: Image Contours
    Segments 1
Width up to 6 or so
Color-light blue or your version of electric short
    Rendering>Blend Mode>Transparent

    CC Radial Fast Blur
    Amount 100
    Zoom Brightest

Then just cut off the layer, Alt + ] when you want the flash to get. Add a wiggle to the opacity to get a flicker.
