January 9, 2007 at 5:01 amgreat tutorial, thank you!
if i may add something…
instead of having to render out frames of the ink-splat, that you made in your particle world comp, as photoshop still images, you could simply nest that composition in another comp where the ink splats would show up, and apply an expression to the nested comp’s time remap property that randomly chooses a frame from that nested comp’s duration? something like:
(applied to to remap:)
seedRandom(1,true);
random(1,outPoint)this chooses a random frame from the nested comp between 1 second (or about the point when the ink splats start to take shape) and the out point of the nested comp.
this way, whenever you make a duplicate of this nested comp, each duplicate would show a different ink splat, and there would be no need to render & import still images.
just a suggestion….

January 9, 2007 at 5:21 amThanks guys. Nice tip Sam, Very Clever. Another cool tip is to use the turbulent displace to add a little more “mess”iness to the ink. I created some good result and forgot to include it in the tutorial… It turned out longer thatn expected.
One of my favorite things to do is create organic effects within after effects, Particle systems, fractal noise, displacement maps… Fun stuff. I hope everyone can experiement with the particle setting and create other unique effects.
Best,

January 9, 2007 at 2:48 pmSweet. I just watched the premiere of Afro Samari with Mr. Sam Jackson. They used the ink blot (well blood) effect in it’s Opening Theme. Very cool, thanks.

January 10, 2007 at 2:25 ama always have trouble with the new flash tutorials. even though i’ve got a cable connection and a loaded new mac the audio stutters and shakes. I have no trouble with other high data rate downloads from other sites. I don’t think it’s a download speed issue. I think there’s a problem with however the video is encoded in flash. There are some other sites i routinely visit with flash tuts that are older and play fine.
I usually resort to the podcast versions. safari or opera or even ie for mac, still same trouble. my pc is old so ive never tried but i much prefer the older way of doing the video tuts in QT.
