couple mc5/cs5 gpu questions…
Before I get started, I’d like to apologize for adding yet another avid/gpu query. I’m going nuts spending hours every night searching for answers that either aren’t out there, out of my search capabilities, or I just need to except that the answers aren’t what I want to hear. Probably should have posted this to start with, but all good, gained a ton of knowledge looking. I’ll post a few questions and hopefully someone can shed some light on them.
Quick rundown of my situation… Updating 3 of our edit suites at work(long overdue). Finally moving into the 64bit world, and have priced systems with the intention of upgrading to MC5 as well as CS5 PP. Have a tight budget so I’m planning on keeping one of the current systems 32bit for capturing and dubbing and making 3, 64bit systems that are entirely tapeless. Just need a little more info to finalize the custom builds, mainly finding a solution for the video cards. Need to find a video card we can afford that is supported by MC5 and Adobe’s new mercury playback engine. I plan on scrapping the avid hardware we have(mojo, mojo sdi, and adrenaline) and using Matrox MX02 minis for SD/HD monitoring. I’d like to use the GeForce GTX 285 if it will work, but I realize my safest bet would be Quadro FX 3800. Now the questions…
MC5’s overview says it doesn’t require additional hardware, can it also use the GTX 285 since it’s very similar to the FX 5800(same chip)?
Has Adobe posted any performance results for the short list of supported cards?
Is the FX 1800 a safe bet to be added to the list of cards for mercury playback?
Anyone had success running a geforce card with media composer?
Is number of CUDA cores the main factor for mercury playback?
Any answer different to what I’ve been finding would be a huge help. Maybe I’m being optimistic, but the recent technology advances make impossible hard to swallow.
