  • Couple basic mask/matte questions

Hi all. I’m just jumping back onto Avid after a Final Cut adventure and I have a couple basic questions:

    1) I want to freeze a talking head and drop out the background. How and where do I draw the mask that will accomplish this?

    2) I have a lens flare transition effect that was digitized on video (and not imported as a graphic). Is there a quick way to drop out the black background (that the alpha channel should have been doing) and see the video below?

If it matters, I’m running on 11.2.3 (I think) using 10:1m resolution.

    Thanks for any advice….

Use the animatte effect to create a painted matte. Create the matte and select Key In or Key Out to key or to mask the area you painted.

Have you tried a simple luminance key on your lens flare transition? If all you need to do is drop out the black background, it might work.
