I am trying to create a five minute countdown timer in AE CS4. I do not like the frames that are displayed in the timer. Nor do I need the hours displayed.

    Question –
    1. Is there a better way to create a countdown timer than the following method
    2. If not, is there a way to take out the frames and the hours?
    3. If there is no way to take out the frames and the hours, is there any way to mask anything on this layer because it does not seem to be able to be masked.

The Method I used is the following
New Comp, New Layer, Effects text numbers, Changed type to timecode.

Precompose. You can mask the precomp.
