Activity Forums Avid Media Composer Countdown

  • Posted by Duane Fulk on June 8, 2009 at 5:19 pm

I don’t think this is possible, but someone told me there was a way to generate a countdown in AVID. I need to start at 30 minutes and count down to 0, keyed over a background. We used to do it in the old Texas CG, but that has long since gone the way of the dodo. Any suggestions will be greatly appreaciated. I need to get rid of the tape I have been using for 9 years! Thanks, Duane

You can do it in AvidFX.
Change the Track Media to Text of Track1. Then open up the Disclosure Triangles for that Track and select the Face track. Now select the Generator Tab and change the Generator Type to Timecode.
The rest you can probably work out for yourself, but if you’re not familiar with AvidFX, then you may want to look at some of the tutorials on the Avid website made by Douglas in the Media Composer forums.

Thanks, I’ll try that. I usually use Boris instead of AVIDFX, but I think your suggestion makes sense. Great idea.

No worries, someone told me the same thing a while back…
    ps.
    Can be very buggy!

It does seem to be buggy. I start with a start time of 30:00 and select decelerate for the interpolation, which makes since to me. The countdown starts as it should, but then seems to generate numbers that start to go up, then down etc. never reaching 00:00. I have tried it in Boris and AVID FX, which crashes my system, but the result is the same. Are there any other settings I should be using? Any ideas?

    Thanks for your help.
