Did you by any chance look at the manual or the FCP Help menu? Just search Countdown.

The Countdown can be automatically added during the Mastering and Edit To Tape process.

yes I did check the manual and I did not understand at all the mastering and edit to tape process. All I would like to do is drop a countdown onto the timelne like you can with color bars.
