  • Could Duplicating CurrentVersion.fcpproject Replicate “Save …”

I have no idea how FCP X works under the hood, so perhaps this is a dumb questions. (my bet, it is)

    But …

Could periodically duplicating the CurrentVersion.fcpproject file be a way to save your work as you go? So that perhaps you could recover from a crash that resulted in lost work.

I know you can duplicate a Project in FCP X. But that duplicates everything in the Project Folder.

If you have background rendering turned off and you are editing (not doing anything unique to an Event, just the Project), I don’t see much changing in the Project Folder. Is all your work (edits) contained in the CurrentVersion.fcpproject file? If so, wouldn’t this work?

If it did, perhaps you could use Apple’s Automator to speed this up. Or create a task that duplicates the file every 5 minutes?

Sounds too simple (and perhaps too useful) to actually work. But I was hoping someone who understands the inner workings of FCP X could set me straight.
