    Hi all,
Anyone know of a way to get rid of loud coughing in the background of an interview? My producer had a massive attack of coughs during a great sound bite that I want to keep.

I turned off my nat mic, but can still hear it on the subjects lav mic.

    Any thoughts?

If the frequencies aren’t too intermingled you could apply a Notch filter. Use the Spectral Noise Reduction effect to identify the problem areas. It will be easier to see and fix the issue in Audition.

If filtering out the cough noticeably changes the quality of the voice track, consider adding some background music or other audio effects over this general portion of the interview.

In Audition, using the Spectral Frequency Display, I’ve had some luck identifying and fixing unwanted noises using the Healing Brush. It might take some trial and error, but it can really help.

    Good luck.

Use the new Sound Removal tool in Audition CC. I used the brush to paint out the beeps of a phone ring just yesterday. Worked like a dream.
