If you have to ask that , you should be asking yourself why are you even in this business….

Adding up the kilowatt consumption is only the first part of the equation. For how long and where is the system sitting?

Here in Iderho, you will pay about $0.055 per kilowatt hour for residential. In Illinois or parts of California you can pay four times that much.

Yeah I easily figure this out with my amp/voltage meter I got hooked up but on average if you figure that the average suite might pull between 10-20 amps (1000-2000 watts) then figure out what it cost you for electricity per hour in your market based on the equipment draw.

Are you trying to figure out your overhead cost for electricity?

The tough thing however is what about all the other items in the location where your suite is located?

Those have an overhead cost associated with them also so you have to figure them in also.

In general all these overhead cost are figured into the hourly charge for the room.

Air Condition, Rent, Electricity, Telephone, Internet Connection, Equipment & Building Maitenance, Fees for common areas as part of the lease, Bank Fees, Insuarance (both business & health)… all of that is part of the overhead for operating your edit suite. Back when I had a big traditional post house I would take all of the fixed operating costs for the plant, annual maintenance budgets, utilities, plus salaries for operators and support staff, and determine the base operating cost per month for each edit suite. Factor in software upgrades and your Apple Care policy as well…
