Corrupted video
Hi I’m new to this forum but was wondering if anyone has experienced the following problem using Vegas Pro 12. I capture DV using Vegas and the captured files are fine. The problem is when I use the files in the timeline. They play fine for a couple of minutes and then the picture becomes corrupted (it just becomes a digital blur). I then save the project and close Vegas and reopen it. The files then play fine again, but after a few minutes the video becomes corrupted again. This becomes a continuous, frustrating circle. Work on the files for a few minutes, files become corrupted, save the project, close Vegas, reopen the project, work on the files for a few minutes more, files becomes corrupted, save the file, close Vegas, open Vegas etc. The sound on the file is fine – it’s just the picture. And I have no problem rendering the final project. It renders fine and plays perfectly. The problem only occurs when I’m actually working on the file inside Vegas. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, is there a fix?

Where are the video files stored? Are they on a system drive? Same drive as the OS? External drive? Please be specific, as it could be many things causing this, like system heat, for example.

Hi Dave Thanks for responding. No, the files and project are kept on a separate USB 3 external drive. Vegas is on the main C drive. There has to be something with Vegas, because if I put the files in another program, eg Cyberlink Power Director, then I don’t have any problems. It only happens when the files are being worked on in Vegas. And today the problem got a little worse because now the problem has crept into the render process so that when I tried to render my latest project, the video became corrupted about half-way through the project (and it’s only a 12 minute project). Didn’t have this problem previously and there was no issue with rendering a 40/50 minute project. There’s clearly something Vegas 12 doesn’t like. I tried downloading the program again and re-installing it – but that didn’t help!

Have you tried making a new project in Vegas and see how these clips act inside the new project?

Yes, this happens to any project I make inside Vegas. Different clips are used in all the projects, but the same thing happens in each project.

You can’t rule out a system issue. The clips might play fine in another software application but is that application ‘taxing’ the processor as much as Vegas does? Granted it sounds weird, but is has happened before. Try downloading a free system temp utility and find out what the CPU temp is hitting while playing the clips in Vegas vs. playing in the other software. If the CPU temps are much higher, you probably are experiencing system cooling issues (which have been discussed in many threads on this board).

Thanks Dave. I turned off the GPU acceleration and the problem seems to be solved.
