I cut a short film on final cut 5.0 HD and then I tried to open it on final cut pro 4 but it read “cannot read this file, possibly corrupted”. Would that be just a matter of me trying to open a project that was editied on 5.0 in 4?

You got it. The file should be fine, it just can’t be opened there.

If you REALLY have to get it in there, search the archives on the subject. It involves exporting EDLs and re-creating the project in version 4. It’s a lot of work unless you really need to open it on that particular machine.

You may be able to open it in FCP 5.x and export it as XML 1.0. Then try to open that in FCP 4, which I believe can open XML files (not sure when that capability was introduced)
