Corrupted file?
Posted by Jim Murphy on May 27, 2010 at 7:45 pmI think I may have run into a corrupted file in one of my Vegas Pro 8 files. Neither the veg nor the bak file will open. They both open to about 40%, then neither will open all the way. Any suggestions? TIA, Jim

May 28, 2010 at 4:03 amDo you have any previous versions saved? Do you have a product such as Comodo TimeMachine or Acronis True Image where you can go back to a previous backed up file? If not, the only thing I would know to do is contact Sony support at this link and see if they can help you with the file.
Also, is it jus that one veg file or is it all of your veg files? Can you try to recreate the veg file by means of putting the same media on the timeline and using the same fx? If yes, try that and see if it is an fx (audio or video) that is causing the problem. If so, remove that fx from its folder and see if the project will load.

May 28, 2010 at 10:35 amI’ve just had this issue myself.
Try updating to 9.0e if you haven’t already and essentially re-install. You can also try taking the VEG file’s corresponding BAK file and renaming it so that it now has a VEG extension. Then move at least one of the project media files from their current location, so that when Vegas attempts to open the project it should ask you where it’s gone. Now try opening it.
If that doesn’t work you could do what I did: import the VEG file into a blank project. You won’t get the individual clips back but you won’t have lost the progress you had made so far. At least you don’t start from scratch.

May 29, 2010 at 12:40 pmNo other versions saved of this project. My other projects appear to be working ok. The good news is that I have lost only a few hours on this, and should be able to get it back in shape in a few hours if nothing else works. Thanks, Jim

May 29, 2010 at 1:53 pmI got it working!! This is what worked: Last night I tried deleting all the .sfap0 files associated with the project. At first I got an error message saying the files could not be deleted because they were being used by another application. (I knew they were not.) I turned off the external HD that holds the project, and let it sit overnight. This morning I was able to delete all the .sfap0 files. There were several of them, and I think that was what was corrupting things. After I did that the veg file opened up fine. Not sure exactly what allowed it to work again, but it is working 🙂 Thanks for your help. Jim
