Corrupt renders
Posted by Craig Wall on December 15, 2010 at 11:31 pmI’ve had two occasions in the past week where I’m getting render problems:
-In the first case AE reported a problem with some footage…which had never caused problems before.
-In the second case I’m getting quicktime files that are incomplete and show the tell-tell signs of corruption (smeared lines, shearing, etc)In neither case was I having any problem with previewing the comps.
I’m just using the Animation codec and uncompressed audio.
Any suggestions would be invaluable.

December 16, 2010 at 12:08 amDave,
I am using CS5….no long-gop footage… But Since I deleted my prefs…AE might have reverted to Open GL being on again. I knew it could cause crashes…I didn’t know OpenGL came into play during renders.
I’ve known about the OpenGL problems for several versions…is it still such a bugaboo?

December 16, 2010 at 5:35 pmOpenGL still [expletives preemptively deleted] in AE.
And yes; you can render with it, but nobody (that I know) does because of the aforementioned [expletives also preemptively deleted]. So you definitely want to turn that off.– The Great Szalam

December 16, 2010 at 11:45 pmDave, Michael….well I checked and I had indeed already turned off OpenGL in my prefs. I too have known about that for several years (but was curious about an update).
But in this case the corrupt renders were not caused by Open GL
Strangely enough when I rendered the movie out in chunks I was able to work around the problem. We will see if it returns.
Thanks for your help!

March 14, 2014 at 10:53 amHi friends of the particles gremlins,
I solved it by rendering the comp first in my working area, then saving the RAM preview in composition settings. Hope that helps! 😉
