I have a .mov file that was recorded in Adobe Onlocation CS4 Mac that seems to have gotten corrupted. The codec is the Panansonic P2 DVCPRO HD recorded in 720p30. When I try to open it in FCP. I get a message that says: File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied,1 unkown When I try to open it up in Quicktime it says: The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file.

I can open the file and play it from beginning to end using VLC player but I can’t seem to transcode it into a format that FCP or Quicktime recognizes. I’ve tried to open the file with about 10 other players and encoders without success. If someone could tell me how to export a high quality FCP compatible file using VLC’s command line I would really appreciate it.

Any other ideas of how to recover the file would be much appreciated.

This worked on a botched file for someone on another forum.

Thanks for the suggestion but I was hoping for something I wouldn’t have to pay for I’m already over budget on this project. Any other suggestions?

That movie repair program DID work wonders on those MOVs. I had the same problems with files from an HPX-170. The earlier versions of OnLocation ruined more files than they gave me. It’s gotten a little better but all I can conclude is that OnLocation just sucks.

There should be a free program from Adobe that fixes these files. Or a better encoder for VLC, because that’s all that can open these files.
