    Dear Friends,

I think my FCPX Library is corrupt. If I try to open it, FCPX crashed immediately.

    What happened:

During the final phase of color correction on a project, I started to get the spinning beachball of death for minutes at a time when I hadn’t before. Then my external HD (containing my media & FCPX library) started to disconnect completely, displaying an error message.

I first assumed the problem was the drive, but when I opened up an unrelated FCPX library everything worked fine —no crash, no external HD disconnect.

Now, almost as though the corrupted library could smell my fear, it won’t open at all! If I try to open the corrupt library FCPX crashes immediately. I tried to open the several previous versions of the Library from Back-Up but FCPX still crashes.

I saw that there might be a way to rebuild a corrupt library but the post was old and I didn’t know if updates had changed the order of operations.

I am desperately trying to recover the projects within this library as they are work related. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for your time,

    K-

Maybe you can restore your projects from one of the autosaved backups.

Did you update the version of FCPX during this process? And I assume you have trashed preferences and deleted generated render files?

[Scott Witthaus] “And I assume you have trashed preferences and deleted generated render files?”

This is where I would start as well. Trash any render files in the cache and try again.

    Hey Scott,

Thanks for helping out. I trashed preferences but how can I delete generated render files if I can’t open the library?

    Thank you for reaching out.

I tried this but, unfortunately, even my back-ups won’t open. ????

UPDATE: I trashed preferences and deleted render files and FCPX still crashes when I try to open the library.

The next step would be to look at any 3rd party plugins or motion templates.

Also, is your media inside the library or external?
