Adobe Premiere has been freezing up everytime I open a project and try to add a transition to a clip. Premiere freezes but not the whole system because you can still open up files and the start menu among other things.

After unistalling and reinstalling the entire CS3 suite twice among running serious virus, adware, and other scans which successfully removed some bugs, no luck. The 1st time of reinstalling it took over 4 hours, but the 2nd time (after virus scans) it installed in about an hour!

So that seemed promising but when I opened the project again to test it, i noticed that the clip i was applying transition to had strange diagonal bars as if the clip were locked. Here is a screenshot of what i am referring to:

After noticing that I deleted the clip from the timeline and haven’t had a problem since.

1.) What do the lines mean on the clip?
2.) Was this the result of a corrupt project or render file?

The diagonal lines indicate the clip was locked, but there is no way I know of to lock just part of a track. Your screen shot does not show the “Toggle Track Lock” switch just to the left of the words Video 1.

Well the track was unlocked and when i did lock it to see if that is what it was, it put diagonal lines across the whole track and they were thinner and went across the whole track, not just the clip. Although in the picture it looks like the lines of a track that is locked, they are actually different lines.

What version of Premiere are you using? Maybe an earlier version put those line when one disables a clip in a track (Right click on the clip and choose Enable.

it is premiere pro CS3 and the clip was enabled. I could even scrub through it and it showed up on the program monitor. I just couldn’t add a transition to it without premiere freezing up. This is why i suspect the clip was corrupted.
