Corrupt bin file
Hi there,
I’ve really made a mess of things. I tried to restore an Avid Express bin from the attic. I made the mistake of copying it over to the Avid Projects folder while Avid was open – Avid balked, and just showed ??? next to the bin. Now I can’t open it in Avid, and can’t delete or modify the bin file in Windows. When I try to remove it from the Projects folder – Windows keeps saying:Access denied: make sure the file is not write protected or in use.
I can’t even back up my Avid Projects folder efficiently, because it stops in the middle of copying with the same error. I wonder how to disengage the app that’s using it (probably Avid), or somehow remove it from within Avid.

FYI
I was able to delete the bin with a shareware app called unblocker – I got it from:https://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Unlocker-Download-68439.html
It allows you to override windows permissions and move, rename, or delete files. I was able to recover the Bin from the attic and restore it by copying it to a separate folder, then copying over the sequences I needed into the original bin.

In the future, just right click on the file in Windows land and go into security. You can take ownership of the file and give permissions to “everyone”.
There is an avid article on this somewhere in the knowledge base, search for permissions.
Also, you need to add “.AVB” to the end of the file you pulled from the attic or Avid won’t recognize it as a bin and open it.
