  • Correcting for the sharp “S” sound at the beginning of a word

    Hi gurus –

I know I made a note of how to correct for this issue where the S sound is so sharp at the beginning of the word it practically hurts your ears! For the life of me I cannot recall what this is called so, therefore, I cannot find a reference as to how to correct for it. I am using Vegas 8 and Sound Forge 8. Any help would be appreciated.

The term for this is “sibilants” and the process is refered to as “de-essing”. In Sound Forge go to: Effects | Dynamics | Multi-Band and use the [Sys] Reduce loud sibilants (de-esser) preset. Only apply it to the parts that need it (i.e., don’t blindly apply it to the whole wave)

Thank you John. I’m working on the project now and this is the last thing I needed to clean up.
