  • Correct DVC Pro HD Set Up?

Hello from a very late night in the UK…

I’m having some problems digitising some DVC Pro HD Footage.

I have Deck Control in FCPs capture window but when I tell the deck to play, so I can watch my footage, it just gives me a broken up pixelated still frame of the last place I paused the tape.

The tape plays in the machine, but I don’t see or hear it in FCP. Then, when I press stop, I get another broken up pixelated frame where the tape is currently parked.

So, have I made an error with my settings, or do I need to set the machine up in a certain way? Or is it something else?

The machine is a Panasonic DVC Pro HD AJ-HD 1400E.

I’m connected via a BNC cable from the SDI Out on the machine to the SDI IN on my AJA card.

The audio connected via my AJA breakout cable.

    Audio/Video settings:
Sequence Preset – AJA Kona LH: 720p 25 DVCPro HD
Capture Preset – AJA Kona LH: 720p 25 DVCPro HD
Device Control Preset – AJA Kona LH: 50 Panasonic VTR
    Video Playback – AJA Kona 720p25 8 Bit DVCProHD (1280 x 7200)
Audio Playback – Built-in Line Output

I’d really like to hear from anyone who has experienced similar problems – my problem now is that I’m a deadline – the deck is rented and it has to go back tomorrow but in the meantime I have 2 hours of footage to digitise.

The camera was a Panasonic varicam and one of my tapes is shot at 50fps, and three of them were shot at 25fps. The tape in the machine is one of the 25fps tapes.

I know I could probably try using firewire, but I’d really like to solve this mystery and do it this way of possible.

    Thanks for reading,

    All the best,

    Steve.

Since I wrote my last post I’ve diagnosed the problem as being with the deck.

I’ve taken a component signal direct from the deck to my monitor and it’s showing all the same picture faults.

    Dirty heads maybe?
