I would like to put a few high resolution 4×3 stills into a 16×9 project. If I drop the stills onto the timeline in the same manner as the video then all of them are squashed inwards when viewed in the preview window. I can rid myself of this squashed preview if I right click on the preview window & tell it to simulate device aspect ratio.

This gives me the video properly displayed in the preview window but the stills all have blank bars at the right & left of the preview window. This is understandable since the still weren’t as wide as the video to start with. I could put the stills on a seperate track & use track motion to zoom in a bit so that the stills fill the entire preview window. The only thing I can see against doing this is my understanding that if I move in using track motion that the quality will be reduced.
I can’t use the pan /crop tool to move in as far as i can see although if i could then the quality would be retained.

Is there anyway to fill the preview window with the 4×3 still & still retain the quality. I might add that these still are of a much higher resolution than that of video.

If you are working in a 16×9 project, then change the aspect of your stills in the properties to match. Other than this, you will have to live with bars on the right and left, or get higher resolution stills so that you can zoom in.

How can you zoom in without changing the photo’s properties?

    Use the Pan/Crop tool.
