Apologies if this is a really basic question, but I’ve just been asked to export something with 7.1 surround sound and I’m wondering if there is an industry standard track configuration for 7.1 sound.

I looked at the export settings on Quicktime Pro and there appear to be 4 different options for the export of 7.1, each one with a different track configuration. Further research on the net doesn’t seem to have turned up much so I thought I’d throw it out there.

    Many thanks for any assistance.

    i believe it to be

    Front left
    Front right
    Center Green
    Low frequency
    Surround left
    Surround right
    Surround back left
    Surround back right

Good if Jean Christophe could agree or disagree.

If it’s for theatrical, Peter’s second post is spot on. If it’s for something else, no hard standard exists that I know of, so it would be safe to go with ITU assignment with the two extra channels tagged onto the end, left first, as per Peter’s first post.

Is this going to a DCP output for theatrical release?
