Updating MAC and FCP and am in a quandry as to go with 8 or 12 core MacPro. Day to Day activities are FCP editing (10 bit uncompressed – standard def) and Color Correction. No heavy graphics work. My tendency is to always go for the best and the fastest but don’t want to overkill either.

Same quandry for Graphics card ATI Radeon 5770 vs 5870….

Since budget is not unlimited, the money saved going with the 8 core could go towards a good external monitor for grading. I see many of you are hooked on the FSI monitors. I am in Europe. Any of you europe based editors using these monitors? Are there problems associated with being so far from service? Any other good alternatives in the under 5K price range?

Thanks for whoever has time to chime in.

6-core 3.33 Ghz, 16GB of RAM and the 5870-card I’d opt for. It’s going to be the fastest system you can get for a lot of tasks. Don’t cheap out on storage either, it makes a world of difference.
