Core Processing Units for Running Adobe Premiere Pro and Production Premium CS5
I’m purchasing a Dell Studio 15 with 8GB RAM, Windows Pro 64-bit, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 with 1 GB GPU, and 500 GB 7200 rpm HD. It comes with an Intel i7 720 QM CPU, which has a 6 MB cache and a speed of 1.6 GHz, with turbo speed up to 2.8 GHz. There is an option to upgrade to an Intel i7 820 QM CPU, which has an 8 MB Cache and a speed of 1.73 GHz, with a turbo speed up to ? 3.1 GHz. Will the increased cache and processing speed make much difference in simple editing (cutting and adding clips, possibly in different formats, cutting and adding sound tracks) of lengthy (1-2 hour) videos mostly in AVCHD format. The upgrade costs $350.

I do not think this laptop is very well suite for CS5.
If you want to edit AVCHD in a descent way with Production Premium get a desktop with an i7 930, 12 gig of ram, a certified Grafics card for MPE and at least 3 HDD. But that’s me…
