  • Copying text media (subtitles) between projects?

    Hi,

I’d like to know if there’s a reasonable way to move text media from one project to another? I have a subtitle track, created by a friend of mine for our common project, in a separate project file that I’d need to move to another project file. The track was created as individual media clips into one video track. Sadly, Vegas doesn’t allow any copy-pasteing between projects.

I tried to render the text media to a DV AVI , but it creates a full screen, blocky flickering effet when I try to blend it with the video in the other project, no matter what compositing mode I try to choose. This is another thing I don’t understand since the render outcome is only white text with a black background when rendered.

I’d highly appreciate any tips on this one, thanks!

Just open a second instance of Vegas so you have two copies open.
Highlight the track or tracks you want to copy.
Do a Ctrl-C and then go back to the other Vegas you have open and paste it. I think you have to have the audio and video track already in place to drop the clips in to.

Very happily it does. 😉 As Roger pointed out in his post, the key is having the two projects open at the same time in two separate instances of Vegas. This may seen foreign to people who are use to other NLE’s that only allow once instance to be open at a time. With Vegas you can open an instance, have it rendering out a project, open another instance and be working on the next project. It’s an extremely productive way to work.

If you want to preserve the transparency you need to render to a codec that supports an alpha channel. DV does not. Try using the Quicktime Animation codec in 32-bit mode. This codec is specifically optimized for computer graphics like text.
