Stupid question I know but.. How do I copy a sequence from one project and and paste it to the end of another projects sequence. When I copied the original and its in the Browser of the second project as “Sequence 1 Copy” and I drag it to the appropriate point on the timeline it does not show me individual clips allowing me to work on those clips there. I’m missing something easy I know but I want to be able to see the sequence as it was so I can work on it there, in the final sequence?

When you copy a sequence and paste the sequence into another sequence, that’s called “nesting” the sequence. It has very particular applications that make it a good choice, and it has numerous downsides as well. You should read the manual about to learn more about it.

Meanwhile, the technique that will work best for you is to simply select, copy, and paste the parts of your timeline into the other timeline. Of course, you need to make certain that you don’t overwrite material on the new timeline, and that can be accomplished by using “Paste Insert” or by pasting to the end of the timeline.

As your experience progresses, you will get better at figuring out creative ways to put the new material precisely where you want it without affecting the rest of your timeline. In the meantime, just remember that if you make a mistake, you can just hit undo, then paste the material at another point until you get it right.

    Make sense???

If you highlight the CLIPS in the other sequence, and then PASTE, you’ll see the individual clips. If you COPY the sequence in the BROWSER, and then paste…then nesting occurs. Or if you drag it onto the new timeline. Don’t do that. Just open the sequence you want to copy. Highlight everything and hit COPY, then go to the new sequence and hit PASTE.

Or did David say that? He seemed to be getting wordy. (hee)

Thanks so much! Its helping tremendously. Getting it figured out little by little. I guess this is what happens when you change fields after 8 years of school in something else!

Also, if you are copying a whole sequence into another sequence and you want all the clips and not the nested sequence, you can drag the sequence from the browser and then hold down the cmd button as you hover over the timeline. This will change from moving the nested sequence to moving the clips that are in the sequence in…if the way I explained that makes sense at all.
