  • copying sequence from 23.98 to 29.97

this is a weird one. we have been editing a short in a 23.98 sequence and tonight we took it in
for the sound mix. they asked that i “drop the 23.98 sequence into a 29.97 sequence” . i tried that
but i got an FCP error message saying it couldnt handle that. so what i did was copy all the clips from
the 29.97 sequence and paste them into the 23.98 one. this lead to some strange results. overall, the
sequence was intact but at a few points, clips were exchanged for clips that arent in our final movie, they
are in the project but unsused. one clip rearragned itself, sliding out of the correct timing and was followed
by a repeat of the clip that proceeded it. very odd and im just wondering what might have caused it. we have
to go back tomorrow so im hoping to get a clean copy out of FCP to take down with us. any ideas what might
    have caused this ?

I’d go back to the sound house and ask why they need it in 29.97.

What is the final version of this project? Audio is audio and isn’t frame dependent. Which program are they using? I’m sure protools can handle 24fps.

A workaround MIGHT be to lay off the sequence back to tape. Make sure you have playback set to 3.2 pulldown cadence.

When it goes to tape it will be in 29.97 without any problems. Then, if you need to recapture it back into FCP to create a new sequence it will have the pulldown included and you can capture at 29.97. Then give that to the sound house.

    Good luck,
