    Hello,

I need to find the quickest way to copy filters/attributes to multiple clips on the timeline. I was wondering if FCP had finally gotten the avid feature of applying filters to the master clip and it transferring to every instance where that clip appears in the timeline.

And if this is possible, is is also possible with changing something to anamorphic. I am working on a feature project and the first editor did not make some clips anamorphic, so I am having to go overwrite each instance. It’s taking forever!

    Thanks for your help

FCP doesn’t work like this. You can copy and paste attributes. Do a sequence search for a clip and paste the copied attributes to all instances of it.

Change the anamorphic attributes in the Browser first for he wrong clips. Select them all in the anamorphic browser right-click and select yes.

Use the remove attributes function for the clips in the sequence to reset them to anamorphic from their distort condition. Depending on what you’ve done you might need to to fix one clip manually in the timeline and then copy and paste attributes to the other clips.

    All the best,

    Tom

The AVID trick sounds like a potential nightmare to me. With the highly common tactic of capturing a whole camera tape, which shot on the reel are you applying say a color grade to? Even if people are sub clipping, do they always break down to individual shots?

I do final grade work and that means a Media Managed project, either with media consolidated or recaptured so either way the shots are broken down and so there is only ever one instance of a master clip in the timeline. If there are repeating scenes like an interview, I save the grade filter combinations to a bin and then highlight a group of shots, drag and drop filters to the timeline. It is easy and I find it fast.
