  • Copying files when importing takes SO much time, why?

Posted by Alberto Gastesi on July 29, 2011 at 12:26 pm

I have imported some ProRes 422 files from my hardisk, and in the import dialog I check the “Copy files to Final Cut Events folder”. Then in the background tasks the software takes long long time to finish copying files to the Final Cut Pro Events folder, am I doing something wrong? I don’t understand it since that task is really simple, isn’t it? (copying files from one folder to another)

Thank you and sorry for my crappy english!

It´s my internal hardiks, my Macintosh HD 500GB 7200rpm disk.

Its still “Importing media” at 16% only, 3 or 4 hours past! Bug? Maybe have to reopen FCPX?

Did you have any of the other boxes checked to analyze the footage? That may be adding to the time.

also, looks like background tasks are suspended when you skim or playback. so if you work normally, the copying should eventually complete during those bits of idle time when you’re not reviewing your footage. at least you can work while it’s happening instead of being locked out of the program by progress bars
