Copying audio clips
Posted by John Hatcher on July 28, 2005 at 7:52 pmI know this is a way stupid question, but I can’t remember how to get avid to copy an audio clip right. Here’s what my timeline looks like. V1, A1, A2. I have one good audio channel (A1) and I need to copy/duplicate that clip into A2 at the same inpoint where A1 starts so they’re in sync. Is there some way to drag/drop and get it down in A2 as a copy?
Thanks,

July 28, 2005 at 10:40 pmMark the audio clip you want to copy, copy to clipboard with C key, load into source monitor using drop down menu above source monitor (clipboard contents), edit into sequence where desired.

good luck,

July 29, 2005 at 10:09 amOr, you can mark the clip in and out, select only the track you want to copy (say A1) ALT & C which will copy the selection to the source monitor. Then patch to the track you want to overwrite into (say A2) and use the ovewrwite button (red arrow). HTH

August 1, 2005 at 5:13 amHi Bill Thanks,
but I have no options for pasting from clipboard in the source monitor after CTRL C copying an audio clip from the timeline. Any ideas why this is?

August 1, 2005 at 5:15 amHi Carl,
When I try this method, I ctrl c to copy after going into segment mode, then deselect A1, A2 and select A3, A4 and ctrl v paste and it still puts the audio tracks in A1, A2! I can’t get it to put them down below for anything! Any ideas on how to do it, or what I’m doing wrong?
Thanks,

August 1, 2005 at 11:47 amHi John,
The method in my previous post should achieve what you want. Mark the section of the clip you want to copy with in + out points. Use alt + c to copy the selection to the source monitor (whichever tracks are selected will be copied). Now splice in or insert as normal (using red (B) or yellow (V) arrows) patching the source side tracks to the appropriate record side tracks i.e. V1 > V2
Hope this helps
Mike
