Posted by Andrew Potter on May 7, 2009 at 5:25 pmCan I copy and paste all of a layers attributes from one composition to another?
I’ve been able to paste a layer, but it’s not the same length as the original.
thanks!

May 7, 2009 at 6:36 pmYes, you can copy and paste properties or groups of properties from one layer to another.
Just select the property or group of properties in the Timeline panel, press Ctrl+C, select the target layer, and press Ctrl+V.
You can do much the same to copy and paste keyframes.

May 8, 2009 at 2:20 pmIn the olden days, I would have suggested to you “paste the layer in its entirety and then use the replace footage function to replace the media on the layer.” But that was before we had Todd to show us both there’s a better way.

May 11, 2009 at 5:01 pmThank you,
Is this only a CS4 function?
I have CS3 (on a mac)
It seems I can only cut and paste key frames from one property at a time,
not the entire layer -

I just tried in After Effects CS3, and I was able to select an entire property group and copy and paste its keyframes to another layer.
