Copy protect, MP4?
My company is looking into releasing our video catalog to the world for video download, ipod video use ect. Is there a way to Copyright protect our files similar to what apple does? I realize there are ALWAYS ways around digital copyright protection, but is there a way to prohibit average users from passing around the files? What about just protecting the download so the URL can not be spread?

iPod only uses FairPlay DRM, and only Apple can create FairPlay encrypted content. For that to work, you’d need to distribute your content via iTunes.
Which might be a fine idea, depending on your content and business model.

We are in talks with apple now. But I was just wondering what other options would be. It seems like lots of companies will be jumping on the web based media delivery soon. Any ideas if better copyright protection will be more common. I know of PIX and other robust video sharing programs, but again, this is for the average “low tech” american downloading movies, ect.

If you want to control your own DRM, the only other viable solution is Windows Media, which will be compatible with pretty much everything OTHER than Mac and iPod. Lots of cool portable devices that support it, and Windows itself of course.
