  • Copy one affect to another event

Posted by Dave Petteruto on April 2, 2014 at 6:57 pm

If I have an event with several affects on it, can I copy just one of those affects to another event? If so how?
    Using SVP 12.

    Thanks

Right click on SOURCE Event and COPY.

Right click on TARGET Event and select PASTE EVENT ATTRIBUTES

You’ll now have the FXs from the SOURCE Event copied over to the other event.

[Graham Bernard] “Right click on TARGET Event and select PASTE EVENT ATTRIBUTES”

That will copy all FX’s but I beleive Dave just wants to copy one and leave the others. There is no way to do this. The workaround is to save that particular FX setting as a preset and then apply the same FX to the other event and select the preset that you saved. It’s a round about way to get there but it works.

Thanks John–that’s exactly what I needed to know. To bad you can’t copy just one effect, but at least your suggested workaround will help.

    Thanks

Glad that worked. Yea, I even tried to automate it with a script but there is no good way to copy a plug-in with it’s parameters intact from the Script API either.

[John Rofrano] “there is no good way to copy a plug-in with it’s parameters intact from the Script API either.”

This is only half true. An OFX plugin can be copied completely and Vegas native plugins are thankfully 85 percent OFX now, even ones that don’t actually look OFX but are like Color Curves. I have already been using a paste of selected attributes routine (including exact copies of a single effect in a chain) in my extension for a year now. If Sony actually defined it’s clipboard object for us I could even remove the need to have a dedicated copy button. With Vegas 13 coming maybe this will all be moot. Seems unlikely though….

True. I wasn’t thinking about OFX plug-ins and haven’t tried with OFX plug-ins yet. Thanks for reminding me. 😉

    Oh righto!

To wrangle-out just ONE FX, put up a DUMMY Event, use my method and PRUNE-OUT what you don’t want and repeat my approach. This way you get ONLY what you want. Remove that DUMMY.

Wow, that’s an interesting idea as well. I never thought of using an Empty Event to hold FX and then use Copy/Paste Attributes to other Events. Very clever!

Wink! – now I’m sure a clever Scriptie could come up with a GUI allowing the User to pick-off the FXs wanted…. Just asking….
