[Marius Perron] “So, what IS the fix?

Do I have to render each little chunk of MP4 that I use; which will generate a new shorter file. And then bring it back into the timeline and get rid of the big file in the media pool?”

Yes, you would have to render the sections you want to keep if you didn’t want to keep the larger file.

I would ask the same question as Steve. Unless you have an hour of video and only need 5 minutes in total, I wouldn’t bother.

If the nature of your work is that you record hours and hours of video only to use small sections, I would invest in an intermediary codec like CineForm and tool like my VASST GearShift. GearShift will let you place just the events that you want to keep on the timeline and then render those to an intermediary format so you are just left with the video you will use. If you have CineForm, GearShift can use that as the render format.
