  • Copy mask sequence from one video to another

Posted by Max Brust on June 22, 2011 at 11:39 am

    Hi.
I’m working a project were a person walks and there is text in the background.
When the person walks trough the text, I want to mask the text so it look like the person is walking in front of it (and then re-appears after the person has gone by).
My plan was to create a mask on the video where the person is walking, and then, copy and paste this same mask on the text media. But I can’t find a way to copy the mask sequence created on my video to the text media!
Any one know how to do this?

    thanks in advnanced.

Right-click the event with the mask and select Copy. Then right-click the event you want to add the mask to and select Paste Event Attributes. The mask (along with other attributes) will be copied. You can also copy individual mask keyframes between events as well using copy and paste.

    Hi John.

I’m not at my home computer right now, so will try again when I get home, but I’m pretty sure I’ve tried the “copy and paste attributes”.
It copied the velocity envelope from video 1 to video 2, for example ( so it worked) but didn’t copied the mask.
Anyway will try again in 3 hours and let you know the results.

    Thanks for the answer.

I made a moving mask before I posted and copied and pasted it as attributes and it worked. All of the keyframes where in the new event so I’m pretty sure it will do the same for you. Let us know.

I’m home now and I’ve tried.
It wasn’t working before, because the original video was in a group. I think it was copying all the info from the group.
Now I de-grouped the origin video and de-grouped the destination video.
I copy and paste the attributes.
And it copies the mask, but since my destination Video is shorter, and the mask key frames on the original video are on the end, they are not being copied right!.

Any ideas how to solve this?

I’ve managed to make it copy cutting the origin video at the size of the destination. But I’m interested in hearing if there is a “cleaner” way to do it.

Thanks for your help on this!
