Any way to copy and paste a mask path to a new shape layer.

I want to apply the dashed line effect to a line drawing around a site, but for the life of me can’t get the slippery so-and-so to paste into a new shape layer??

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Make sure that you’re copying and pasting by selecting respective path properties, not a higher-level property group.

I believe I am, selecting the mask path (by clicking on the mask path, which shows the mask highlighted in yellow), and selecting the shape layer, and group sub section and hitting paste..
    see attached..

    cheers

Expand that Group 1 property group. Keep expanding until you see a path property. Select it. Paste.

    Thanks Todd..
You were close, but no cigar.. (you incorrectly assumed I’d done even the most basic steps)

I had to hit the little “add” button and add a “path” first, then i was able to paste into that..

    Thanks for your help/understanding.

    Sorted.

You can copy any path into any path.

Here’s a search that pulls up several pages about copying and reusing paths.

    Dear Todd,

What exactly is the “Path Property?” Is that it’s name in AE, or will it be written as something else? I’ve been all over the Adobe CS3 manual and google searching for an answer, to no avail. I’m trying to paste a path I copied from Illustrator into a shape layer in AE.

    Many thanks,
