  • Copy DVCPRO HD Tape to 200/P2 cards?

Posted by Mike Laur on June 14, 2006 at 7:25 pm

    P2 Gurus:

Is it possible to “dupe” scenes from a DVCPRO HD tape (played back, obviously, from a suitable DVDPRO HD deck) into the 200’s P2 cards?

Maybe through Firewire from the tape deck to the camera?

Just curious if this will work.

It is possible. I have seen Barry Green do it. He recorded the HD image from my timeline to the cards for demoing at another booth. I’m sure someone will chime in with the particulars.

Capture to FCP from the deck via Firewire, then run out to Firewire out to an HVX and record to the P2 card.

You could play from the deck via firewire straight to the camera. Verify what format the tape is (either 1080/60i or 720/60p) and set the camera to that same mode. Then go into MCR mode, and turn off the thumbnails. Hit “play” on the deck, and you’ll see the footage showing up on the HVX’s LCD. At that point just press the gray and red VCR/MCR “REC” buttons and it’ll record the incoming firewire stream to the P2 cards.
