copy and paste segments from a sequence
Posted by Jim on August 25, 2012 at 12:04 amI was hoping to set i/o points in a sequence and copy and past that i/o selection later on in the same sequence. I can select a complete clip in a sequence and copy and past, but not an i/o in the middle. (Perhaps this was only possible in FCP).
Any insight would be appreciated.
CS6.0.1 – OS10.6.8

August 25, 2012 at 9:32 amIt’s done by COMMAND-X(cut), or C (copy), and (SHIFT)+COMMAND-V (paste or paste insert).
Same way as FCPStefan Kamp, FCP,Lightworks,Ppro,MC

August 25, 2012 at 9:54 amIf, within a sequence, I set in and out points, then Cmd C, then Cmd V at a blank place in the same sequence, nothing happens — nothing is either copy or pasted.
I have Premier CS6.0.1 running on 2 different MBPs OS10.6.8 (two licenses) and it is the same on both systems.
Any additional thoughts?
Thanks,

August 25, 2012 at 11:34 amThe thing is, you can’t copy and paste with i/o. (but you CAN delete).
Copy and pasting is done by selection, so select (drag) your segment, copy and paste…Stefan Kamp, FCP,Ppro,MC,Lightworks

April 11, 2013 at 2:36 pmJim,
I have the same issue with Premiere Pro CS6. I found a workaround by marking in and out, then lift the section using ( ; ). Instantly press ( CMD + Z ) to undo. Then you have the clip segment copied with the in and out points on your clipboard. You can go ahead and paste it anywhere. I happen to have 8 sequences open and am copying and pasting from, and to all of them. This also works with multiple video/audio tracks in the sequence. Just make sure you click the tracks you want to add to the copy and paste by selecting the track header to the left.
** Is this the only way to do it? If there is another way, I would love to know. I feel like it should be much easier.
Ultimately, I am trying to mark in and out on a section of the timeline, copy that marked section, and be able to paste it anywhere in the sequence or another sequence in the project.
I hope this help you out a little Jim, this was driving me nuts to figure out.

February 27, 2014 at 3:52 pmI am a commercials editor and am looking to make the switch from FCP to either Premiere or AVID and this is a huge one for me. This function is pretty much the core of my selecting process where speed is everything, so a work around isn’t ideal. I have spoken to a few editors about the fact that this is not doable in Adobe Premiere, and I can tell you that it generally gets a shocked and disappointed “hmm”. It should really be a customizable option.

February 27, 2014 at 5:12 pmIt’s been updated and you can do this now with the new creative cloud version. I switched 3 years ago from FCP and absolutely love it. Avid left a bad taste in my mouth years ago too, although I hear it’s better now.
