  • Cool DV error effect – how to?

    Hi,

I would like to make a cool DV error type effect (with image chunks and squares) exactly like what happens on a corrupted mini dv tape. I’ve heared of plugins that simluate malfunctionning VHS equipment but what I really need is malfunctionning dv ..

does anyone know of any plugins that can do this or any other way to do this?

    Thanks people! 🙂

hi…yeah i know those digital dropouts that u r talking about…i used to do it with mosaic and some random square mattes plus i had to create the distorted image and composit it all together and time it perfectly too…it was tedious…i too would like to know a quicker way of doing this…not that i use it in most of my jobs but hey u never know when u might need to do it again…lol…sorry i wasnt much help but from what i know that was the way i used to do it back then and hope it might get u started on some kind of direction to creating that effect…cheers…merv

Thanks for the advice with the mosaic!
I’ll give it a try but I’m pretty sure some company must have developped a plugin for this. I’ve seen this effect in several music videos, like that NIN video (cant remember the name)

i was discussing this effect with a friend and he told me a quick way was to fast forward the dv or digital betacam tape and record it on the fly with premirepro or fcp…seems the fast forwarding of the tape actually gives u that digital noise/dropout look…from there u can composit it on yur footage…so that i think is a faster way than mine…cheers…merv
