Cooke lens Depth of Field question
I don’t often get to use Cooke lenses these days. I’ve read often about their favorable focus roll-off characteristics to some DPs. My question is how is this dissimilar to just stopping down on a different lens to achieve a similar fall-off? (I know there are other Cooke characteristics people desire, but I’m specifically asking about focus and the fact people say it has a gentler fall-off)
Also, what specifically about Cooke’s lens design make them behave that way? Is it a particular element(s) in their design
