  • converting wmv to mov in OS 10.6.8

Posted by David Mayer on September 25, 2014 at 10:04 pm

I am running FC 7 with OS 10.6.8

    Works great

But I need Flip4Mac or something else to convert .wmv movies for Final Cut.

    Flip4Mac requires OS 10.7

Don’t want to upgrade and have FCP not work in 10.7.

    Suggestions for converting .wmv movies?

(I have tried Compressor, MPEG Streamclip and ClipWrap.)

    Thanks,
    Dave

FCP 7 works under 10.7 and 10.8. No issues.

Biggest issue will be finding them to install…

10.7 was a disc. 10.8 was the first download only. But I don’t think they sell it anymore. For 10.7…you might need to see if someone you know has that, or look on eBay

Go and get AppGeeker converter, it works well in converting between videos including .wmv file.

It’s quite simplistic in design but I normally just set it to iPad Air and let it do it’s thing.

To import WMV to FCP, we had better convert WMV to FCP more supported Apple ProRes MOV. iDealshare VideoGo is just the right one which can convert WMV to MOV(Apple ProRes) or MOV(QuickTime) on Mac OS X.

Step by step guide at https://www.idealshare.net/video-converter/wmv-to-mov-converter-mac-windows.html

It also can convert AVI, MKV, ASF, FLV, VOB, 3GP, AVCHD, MXF, MTS and etc to Final Cut Pro supported Apple ProRes MOV

Well, you can’t edit a WMV video in Final Cut Pro directly even you upgraded to FCP X. To solve the issue, you need to change the file extentsion from “.wmv” to a codec that FCP can read more easily (without rendering basically). The codec is Apple ProRes, which ensures maximum editing quality and efficiency when working with Final Cut Pro.
