I am having trouble converting a wmv file for use in FCP. When I use the mov dvc pro 50 setting in the DV folder I get a message that says error: input and output format. I can’t even convert using the mp4 and wmv settings in the quick start folder. I get a message that says job dies after 3 retries. I also think I may have accidentally deleted the quicktime settings. How can I restore them?

First, make sure you are running the latest version Compression Master, which is 3.2.2. Then, make sure your WMV source is using a codec that CM supports. CM should be fine with any unprotected WMV9 file that you throw at it, but if you use a WMV7, 8, or earlier, then compatibility is not assured.

Open your WMV file in WMP9 Mac and use File/Get Info. That’ll tell you what WMV variant you have. Post the info here if you’d like. CM should work as Charles states but in certain cases using Flip4Mac Player Pro which will work in most any Quicktime based app, may handle some variants that CM can’t.
