  • Converting video_TS files to quicktime?

Posted by Jc on May 5, 2005 at 7:30 pm

I have a Sony DCR-DVD100 video camera and am trying to edit some things I recorded but b/c of the DVD format, nothing can read it. Is there a program that will convert it into something workable?

    JC,

As far as I know, the TS file is strictly formatted for DVD playback. There may be some crazy software out there that can convert it, but I’ve tried the same thing and came up empty-handed. See if you can create a disk image from Disk Utility and import the contents directly into FCP (assuming that is what you’re using as an NLE), but audio may be another issue. Unless you can find some “Ripping” software. That’s always a gamble and can get messy depending on the length (filesize).

    Hope this helps any.

    Cheers,

Read this. You don’t need to follow all the steps. You will be able to convert the video TS to quicktime with good results. I’ve done it numerous times and used the files with different applications.

cool, thanks. Which steps do I skip, there’s a bunch…? And when it’s converted, is there a seperate quicktime movie for each chapter from the DVD?

There’s also a program called cinematize that works very well. Can convert to DV or DVC50 or even uncompressed.

Why not just bypass all that and play your DVD through whatever firewire device you have into FCP?

1: my camera has no firewire out. I’m looking for a new camera now…
2: I don’t have FCP yet, I just posted in this forum b/c I figured someone here would know (plus someone said I should). I’m just getting into video editing, so I’m trying to learn as much as I can.

I just bought DVDxDV Pro based on the last post. Hot damn that is a cool little app!!! This will cut my digitizing time on client projects in HALF. A rare find for $80.

Thanks!! Editing on FCP since 1.5 and still – I learn something new here at the Cow every day.
