Converting to the Real Video codec
Hello to all,
I’m sure that this isn’t the best forum for this, so I’m going to post in a few different ones.
The owner of the prod comp that I am editing for has just bought the Nokia N95 cell phone. The owner says that the phone only accepts the Real Video codec. Which I know that there is a Real Video Player, but I don’t know anything about the Real Video Codec. Of course, I’m not 100% sure that he owns the N95, I’m trying to get that info myself. He only mentioned that he bought the newest top of the line Nokia. I told him he should of just bought an iPhone, but he hates macs. Although he’s spent $10,000 on a FCP system, go figure.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this and if anybody has any knowledge of Real Video, and if so, is there a way to convert to it from FCP/QT?

With less than 10% market penetration, there aren’t going to be too many users here exporting to RealVideo.

Nokia has to accept something other than real video.

With some effort, I found the link to Real Producer. It’s available for Windows or Linux, not for Mac. There’s a free version and a $199 version.

Yeah, check the sys requirements though. It’s old:
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X version 10.2 Jaguar or 10.3 Panther

On Intel it successfully installed, but the export component did not appear in Quick time Pro.
It kind of worked on my PPC G5. When I say kind of worked, it gave an “unexpected termination” error message at the end of encoding, but still created a playable file. I used it on some time ago on Panther, but haven’t had any calls for it after Tiger. Perhaps it’s not worth the effort.

I spoke too soon, the file contained video, but no audio. BTW, I still have Cleaner 6.x on my PPC system which supports Real Media. It still works under Tiger, but doesn’t have a preset for mobile. I guess a setting could be created if Cleaner’s Real codecs are modern enough.
