Converting Sony HD MXF files to something accessible…
Hi
I have a video dilemma that’s driving me insane!
I recently shot a short film on a Sony EX3. The camera guy provided me with MXF files, and I purchased Calibrated MXF importer plugin and I can happily watch the files. There are about 900 files.
They import into FCP fine, and I can edit them on my macbook pro with reasonable speed.
However, I need to burn some DVDs of the go-takes for the director and producer. I tried pulling the files info DVD Studio Pro, but for some reason only the video files get imported, audio is ignored.
So I thought maybe I would convert all my files to something more “edit friendly” and “DVD Studio Pro friendly”, partly because I have access to a nice fast sooper Mac Pro that I can do some editing on, but of course, it doesn’t have Calibrated MXF Plugin on it, so it won’t play the files.
I am eventually going to convert everything to prores for colour grading, but this creates such large files I’d rather work on something smaller for the time being until I get to that point.
So I guess my question is, what codec should I convert these files to so I can:
a) edit them on any old mac that doesn’t have MXF plugin
b) keep them a smallish file size
c) allow them to be imported into DVD studio pro properly
d) maintain their current resolutionMy thought was AIC, but again, a google search suggests this might not be the best way to go…
Any thoughts?
Cheers
Chris
