Converting Premiere Batch Import Data

I do this all the time in Excel, just Find and Replace (CTRL+F or perhaps Apple+F).

You may even be able to do this in one of the various text editors.

Be careful on how you save out the resulting file though – one little extra space at the beginning or end can wig out your editing app.

Also, be sure to keep the final semi-colon before the frame number, otherwise Final Cut will probably think you’re doing NDF TC.

Here is an example of the file–

Name Media Start Media End Reel
S10 01 00:31:16:14 00:33:02:09 tape 18

The columns are seperated with tabs. It was saved as .csv and I changed it to .txt manually to import. It looks correct as per page 301 of the FCP manual, but FCP is still giving errors about not matching headers.

just so anyone doesn’t pull their hair out doing this…

you have to export the batch as .csv from premiere. then go into a spreadsheet, reformat the headers as shown earlier. then save it as tab delimited (not comma seperated). then, reopen it in a word processor and save it as encrypted text– simple text files do not import.
