Yeah!!! I can finally log on to Creative Cow! I’ve missed so much!

To the point: I need to convert a logo into a video. I’d like to be able to change the shape so that it appears animated and I’d like to make it have Alpha channels so that I can use it as an overlay. (If I’m totally washed up in my thinking — I’m cringing already, but I would appreciate any and all advice.

Previously, I’ve had problems with pixelation and transparency.

The logo was created in Illustrator by another designer. I think that I could get a copy of it from him, but I’m not even sure what file format would work best.

I’ve not yet purchased the Newest After Effects — do I need it?

Thank you in advance to all that reply!

    Yours,

I don’t understand what you want to know.

Do you not know how to select specific areas of an image and create an alpha channel around them?

You need to be specific with the problems you’ve had so we can be helpful.

I don’t know what the logo looks like, or how you want to animate it, but I commonly take
one of my trade association clients’ logos into Photoshop, break it up into segments (selecting
or lassoing or magic wanding pieces) then importing them into AE as layers to add movements.
You could do the same with Ilustrator to FCP or PS to FCP. I usually create a new PS file with transparent
background in the size I want for video (720×486 usually) and drag the slected chunks of the logo into that new
file so each chunk is its own layer already.

    Thanks for your reply.

And, uh, no — I don’t know how. (Should I be embarrassed?)
I know I’ve used “canned” graphics that are in Alpha channel mode (if you will.)

Specifically, I want to create a transparent area within the logo so that I can use the logo as an overlay.

The other issue is Pixelation as I resize the object. What file format do I need to have the logo design to be in, so that when I bring it into my Final Cut Pro video it looks sharp, clean etc.

Thank you again for the reply.
