I have a Cinewave HD system which is heading to great NLE beyond. So I’m thinking of moving over to the Kona 2. Apparently the Kona uses the Apple uncompressed codec. So here are a few questions…

I tried exporting a Targa YUV 8 bit file to an Apple 8 bit uncompressed file via QuickTime conversion, but it doesn’t look right. I am playing it back via the Cinewave, so that might be a factor. Nevertheless, it looks washed out – or too bright – like the contrast or the gamma is off.

Any reason why? Has anybody switched and converted their files without problems?

BTW, I did the same thing, but to the Sheer UC 8 bit codec, and when rendered it looked exactly like the original. (maybe this is a weird comparison – since it rendered it back to a Targa YUV file, but when I did the same with the Apple codec – the render was still washed out).

I’ll have a Kona 2 in a day or two and will play back some CW HD files to se how it handles it.

I’ll post my results- though I’m sure others have dealt with this.

From what I understand, the CineWave files will play back in your Kona 2 system if you select the Kona 2YUV codec for the Sequence. I’m sure some of the other folks here can confirm that.
